Wordle Solver
Enter your Wordle guesses with their colors and see every word that still fits, with the best next guesses first. Free, runs in your browser.
How it works
Type each guess on its own line, then a space and five color letters, one per tile: g for green (right letter, right place), y for yellow (the letter is in the word, but not in that place) and b for gray (the letter is not in the word, or there are no more copies of it). The solver goes through the 8,636 five-letter words of the ENABLE list. For each word it works out the colors Wordle would show if that word were the answer, and it keeps the word only when those colors match yours on every line. Because the colors are worked out the way the game does it, repeated letters are handled correctly: a gray letter that also appears green or yellow in the same guess only means there are no extra copies. The words that are left are ranked. Everyday words come first, using the SCOWL word lists to tell them from rare ones. Inside each group, a word scores one point for every other remaining word that shares each of its different letters, so a guess that uses the most common remaining letters sorts to the top. The list is a general English dictionary, not the official Wordle list, so it can contain rare words and can miss a few answers.
Example: slate bybyb means S gray, L yellow, A gray, T yellow, E gray. That leaves 35 words, and the first ones are tulip, built, guilt, pilot, until and quilt. Add the colors of your next guess on a new line to narrow it further.
Frequently asked questions
How do I use the Wordle solver?
Type a guess you made, a space, and five letters for the colors Wordle showed: g, y or b. Add one line for every guess. The words that still fit appear at once, with the best next guesses first.
What do g, y and b mean?
g is a green tile (right letter in the right place), y is a yellow tile (the letter is in the word but somewhere else) and b is a gray tile (the letter is not in the word, or no more copies of it). The numbers 2, 1 and 0 and the squares 🟩 🟨 ⬛ ⬜ work too.
Can I paste the colored squares from my Wordle result?
Yes. Type the word, then paste the five squares after it, for example: crane 🟨⬛⬛🟩⬛. The share text from the game does not contain your words, so you still type each word yourself.
How does the solver pick the best next guess?
Everyday words are listed before rare ones. Among the rest, a word ranks higher when its letters appear in many of the other words that are still possible, which makes the guess more likely to split the list.
Does it handle repeated letters?
Yes. The colors are worked out the same way as in the game, so a word with two E's is checked correctly, for example when one E is green and the second is gray.
Which words does it use?
The 8,636 five-letter words of the ENABLE word list, which is in the public domain. It is a general dictionary, not the list of Wordle answers, so a rare word can appear and an answer the game accepts may be missing.
Can I use it for games like Quordle or other five-letter word games?
It works for any five-letter game that colors tiles with the same green, yellow and gray rules. For one board at a time, enter that board's guesses.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. The words are checked in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
